I was warned about Tristan Cole.

“Stay away from him,” people said.
“He’s cruel.”
“He’s cold.”
“He’s damaged.”

It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster.

But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me.

We were both empty.
We were both looking for something else. Something more.
We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.

Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

MY REVIEW

Tragedy…..loneliness….anger….depression…..all of it combines to cripple those left behind. For Elizabeth, life is so far from the dream she envisioned. A horrible accident took the life of her husband. Leaving her to pick up the pieces. She holds an anchor that keeps her from drowning in complete sorrow….her daughter Emma. After ‘running’ to escape the memories, Elizabeth decides to leave the home of her mother and head back to Meadow Creek to face all of the memories of the life she walked away from. To the home she once shared with her husband.

Tristan Cole had life by the wings. A wife he adored, a son that man him proud, and a growing business he always dreamed of having. Never in a million years would he imagine that his life would change in the blink of an eye. The loss of his wife and son left Tristan angry and full of hate. There were so many ‘what ifs’ floating in Tristan’s mind. Nothing could pull him out of the grief that was smothering him. Tristan chose run from the people who loved him most. Escaping to a town where no one knew a thing about him…..Meadow Creek.

An unexpected ‘welcome’ greets Elizabeth as she gets to town. A face she has never known before. Soon Elizabeth discovers that the rugged stranger is her neighbor. Everyone in town steers clear of Tristan. His anger radiating in magnitudes. Just as Elizabeth is alarmed at having him as a neighbor, Tristan is less than excited to learn Emma and Liz live next door. The two begin to interact in ‘strange’ ways. Liz extending friendship while Tristan pulled away. Both scarred by love.

Soon Liz finds herself drawn to the man who can’t contain his pain. Reveling in the fact that they share a deep loss that only the other can understand. Despite all the warnings from friends, Liz decides to take a chance to learn more about the man whose soul is as broken as her own.

First let me say….how have I not read a Brittainy Cherry book before now??? Oh my word!! This book was one of those novels that makes it hard to put a review into words. The beauty contained in the pages a breath of fresh air. A glimpse at two souls that are broken so severely. A journey of pain, sorrow, and discovering life once more.

Cherry has taken a tragedy and written about it so eloquently. Sharing the story of Tristan and Liz with the most amazing twists and turns. A beauty in the darkness. There were moments of sorrow, yet others of joy. There were secrets that lurked beneath the promise of a different future. Throughout it all I was pulled into this story with every beautiful word….every moment of discovery. At the end….a true Brittainy Cherry fan was born. Discover this journey for yourself!!
