When a small town, single father becomes enemies with the new girl in town, it’s either keep fighting her or give in to what his heart wants most.
Emily Post isn’t staying. Back at her grandmother’s summer home, she’s only in Elk Lake City for a visit which can’t end soon enough. Especially when she can’t seem to get away from one grumpy repairman who shows up everywhere. Fortunately for him, his daughter is sweet even if she refuses to speak.
Jess Carter is a hometown favorite and a hot single father. Sworn off love for several reasons, foremost is the silence of his daughter. His little one has a secret and he doesn’t know the why behind it. Unfortunately for him, his six-year-old has taken a liking to the beautiful new woman in town visiting her nana. And everywhere he goes, there she is, invading his space and his heart.
While silence might be golden, the voice in lonely hearts refuses to remain quiet.
Author note: One feisty woman visiting this single father’s small town leads to fairy tales, backyard folly, and firework-worthy sexy time.

Carving your way in the world is a hard pill to swallow at times. For Emily – the quest to write for a famous publication has led her to the city of Chicago. Pushing herself to be the best that she can be, Emily finds herself called back ‘home’ to the house where she spent her summers. Emily’s grandmother was in poor health, and this single gal now has to figure out what to do.
Returning to her grandmother’s home was definitely like taking a page out of her past. So many familiar faces were still present in this quaint town. What Emily didn’t expect was to cross paths with Jesse Carter. This prickly handyman was determined to give Emily the cold shoulder. In spite of all of Jesse’s faults, the one thing that captured Emily’s attention was his daughter – Emily.
Emily used her voice to help Emily navigate her world in a much different way. Opening doors that Jesse couldn’t believe. In spite of this connection, Jesse was still in push-pull mode where Emily was concerned. As Emily dealt with her grandmother’s illness, decisions would have to be made that would affect more than just Emily’s life. With so much left behind in Chicago, where did Emily see the future??
Speak from the Heart is a newly enhanced rewrite of Sound Advice by L.B. Dunbar. First let me start by saying I love the more ‘seasoned’ characters that Dunbar chooses to write about. Life is messy and I love how the author’s stories reflect that fact.
Emily is in the midst of a family situation that has left her questioning her choices. The highlight in the midst of the indecision is the relationship that Emily has formed with Katie. This duo has surprised everyone in this small town, including Jesse. I found myself drawn to this story of new beginnings and life decisions. Fate definitely played a hand in throwing these two tattered souls together. The only question that remains is where Emily and Jesse will travel on their quest for happiness. Make sure you add this book to your reading list!!
