For the record, I’m not going to hook up with my boss.
I’m a lot of things—a screwup, a basket case, a flunky. But when I take a nanny job to be near my pregnant sister, I swear to myself I’ll walk the straight and narrow, which means I cannot fall for my insanely hot boss.
I don’t want to be tempted by that rugged rancher. By his chiseled muscles or southern charm or the way he snuggles his kids at bedtime. Ethan Carter won’t get the key to my heart, no matter how much I want him.
Between us, she’s the last thing I need as I finalize my hellish divorce.
What sane man trying to rebuild his life wants a hot nanny with long, sexy hair, curves for miles, and a smart mouth? A perfectly kissable, pouty mouth that I shouldn’t notice.
My focus is on my kids and my ranch, not the insufferable siren who sleeps in the room next to mine. It doesn’t matter that she wins over my kids in a heartbeat or runs my life better than I do. Tori Duran is the one woman I can’t have and shouldn’t want, no matter how much I crave her.

There comes a time in life when you realize you need to regroup and start over. That is the realization that has smacked Tori right in the face. Discovering the guy she has been seeing for month is really married, added to the long list of mistakes that Tori has made. With student loans calling her name, and bills that need to be paid, Tori is trying really hard to land a job that can keep her floating. The only problem? With a quick wit, Tori is known for saying what she thinks. Regardless of the consequences. Pair that with the fact that she didn’t finish her last semester at school, and Tori is barely able to ‘swim’ in this sea of the corporate world.
Luckily for Tori, her sister Kat is always looking out for her family. With the end of her pregnancy in sight, Kat would love nothing more than for Tori to take a job as a nanny at a neighboring farm. Ethan owns a horse farm down the road from Kat and Brady. With a divorce in the works, Ethan and his brother are trying hard to keep the farm afloat. Something the demands work from sun up to sun down. With two children in tow, Ethan needs help with his home life so he can focus on the work that is needed to keep the farm from going under. A task that grows harder by the day.
When Tori and Ethan meet, things are less than spectacular. A whole lot of snark and sass permeates between these two. After a second chance, Tori decides to do a ‘test run’ with Ethan’s family. Something that proved to be a lot easier to accomplish than either planned. To say that Tori molded right into Ethan’s family was an understatement. The way that Tori kept Ethan’s household running was nothing short of spectacular.
As life began to ‘settle in’ for these two, an attraction began to heighten that couldn’t be ignored. There are a few problems with this situation….an impending divorce, Tori’s spit fire attitude, and past mistakes that are sure to come back and haunt you. Is there even a possibility that these two independent people will risk it all for the desire they feel brewing? Only time will tell if all of this is meant to be or a cyclone waiting to break loose.
Reckless is the latest book from author Lex Martin. It’s an homage to imperfect relationships everywhere. While the premise of the story was good, I found some of the plot and relationships to be a bit childish and a bit difficult to relate to. At other times – the relationship between Ethan and Tori was a chaotic (and engaging) as looking at the stars! So – it was a mixed bag of emotion on this one.
I did enjoy the secondary characters and the way they tied into this tale. One that makes you wonder what type of future is in store for these two broken souls. While I loved the connection to Kat and Brady’s story, there were elements that made me feel like this ‘connection’ was a bit forced at times. All in all – Reckless would make a nice ‘feel good’ story that any lover of contemporary romance would enjoy!
