Welcome to the neighborhood. Watch your husband, watch your friends, and watch your back.

Cat Winthorpe has worked hard to get what she has: a gorgeous home; social standing; and William, her successful, handsome husband. Then a friendly new couple moves into the estate next door. While cautious, a good neighbor like Cat greets them with open arms and warm hospitality.

Neena Ryder isn’t a fellow lady of leisure. A life coach with off-the-rack dresses, personal issues, and a husband who hasn’t delivered, she’s anxious to move up in the world. This beautiful new town is a step in the right direction. It’s also making Neena aware of what she doesn’t have. Namely, William. When Neena’s infatuation escalates into obsession, it’s just a matter of eliminating a few obstacles to get the life she wants. The life next door.

As Neena’s secret fixation grows, so does her friendship with Cat. But beneath their cordial interactions is a wealth of temptations, secrets, and toxic jealousy. For both women, the desire for a perfect life can turn perfectly dangerous.

MY REVIEW

Every Last Secret has been promoted as ‘the book of the year’ in advertising, so my curiosity definitely was peaked prior to release. As a huge fan of AR Torre’s previous thrillers – Black Lies and Tight – I found myself pulled towards the book from the cover image and description. Imagine my surprise when Every Last Secret was release on the Amazon First Reads program!! I one clicked this ‘baby’ and the rest was history…..

Cat Winthrope has the life that makes others stop and take notice. A beautiful home, a piece of the family business, wealth, and the husband that would leave any woman weak in the knees. It is a life that William and Cat are proud of, and don’t mind sharing with their friends and family.

During an annual end of the summer bash, Cat finds herself meeting the couple that will soon be living next door. Matt and Neena are clearly out of their element, but are determined to keep up the façade. When William lets Cat know that Neena is now employed at the company as a life coach, things begin to take a drastic turn.

Did Every Last Secret live up to the hype?? Well…..right off the bat you know this novel is about cheating. Where it leads will depend on Cat and Neena. When reading Every Last Secret – I felt the lack of the vibe one would expect when a book is labeled a thriller. The novel might fit more closely with a romantic suspense genre, but I really don’t know if it falls into that category either.

During the first chapters of the book, readers can quickly figure out who is responsible for a lot of the ‘happenings’ throughout the book. The unraveling of Cat and Neena’s neighborly existence was interesting. It reminded me of the movie A Simple Favor crossed with the TV series Revenge. So – the originality of the story missed the mark when anticipating a thriller that AR Torre is know for creating.

There were moments when I found myself anticipating William’s part in this saga. With so many avenues that this tale could take, his response after giving in to temptation was a bit of a letdown. What readers will find when delving into the lives of Neena and Cat is a twisted tale from the eyes of a narcissist. The only question is who will come out on the other side of this saga with the better hand??
