In her twenty-fifth adventure, vampire hunter and necromancer Anita Blake learns that evil is in the eye of the beholder…
Anita has never seen Damian, her vampire servant, in such a state. The rising sun doesn’t usher in the peaceful death that he desperately needs. Instead, he’s being bombarded with violent nightmares and blood sweats.
And now, with Damian at his most vulnerable, Anita needs him the most. The vampire who created him, who subjected him to centuries of torture, might be losing control, allowing rogue vampires to run wild and break one of their kind’s few strict taboos.
Some say love is a great motivator, but hatred gets the job done, too. And when Anita joins forces with her friend Edward to stop the carnage, Damian will be at their side, even if it means traveling back to the land where all his nightmares spring from…a place that couldn’t be less welcoming to a vampire, an assassin, and a necromancer.
Anita partakes in her 25th adventure with a bit of a bang…..
As Anita’s vampire servant, Damien is at her mercy. The one she relies on – along with Nathaniel – in her time of need. Things haven’t been going as they should for Damien. He is having unusual nightmares and wakes covered in blood. Something that should definitely not be happening!
Ireland is calling with its unusual occurrences. Something that Damien has feared for quite some time. The one who created him is losing her hold on that country and terror is escaping all around. Ted/Edward has called upon Anita to help him figure out the latest paranormal anomaly in the land of fae magic.
Things are never quite the way they seem in Anita’s world. Something she is about to discover with her animals to call upon by her side. This epic adventure will endanger Nathaniel, Damien, and anyone that Anita calls upon for her powers. A journey that none will forget anytime soon.
Whew…..lions, tigers, vampires and necromancers…..Oh MY!!
Fans of the Anita Blake series have long awaited this 25th book in the series. Many questions will be answered about main characters in the book. Connections of power will be explored, old friends will come back for a ‘visit’, and lives will obviously be in jeopardy. All of the elements that make a Anita Blake novel a favorite of fans far and wide.
Let me begin by saying – I seriously had no idea how l-o-n-g this installment would be. I try to stay away from anything that would spoil the plot of a book for me and did not look into the length of the book. As a fast reader – I found the book dragging on to an extreme length. Something that really wasn’t necessary this far into the series.
The ties of Anita’s triad with Nathaniel and Damien goes through a bit of a change. The discussion of who Anita will marry takes center stage….as does the desire or repulsion of becoming a mother. Something that was relayed to the point of being obnoxious. All of Anita’s animals to call are present throughout the book….nothing new there. However – the constant ‘argument’ over who would ‘be with’ Anita seemed to dominate this story plot. After 24 books – we know that everyone is susceptible to Anita’s call….so much so that they walk away from their lovers, wives, and significant others at the drop of a hat. By book 25 – it really isn’t necessary to spend chapters discussing what we already know from the past novels. The discussion has become a bit obnoxious in this installment.
There will be a huge power shift in this novel along with a host of new character introductions in Ireland. With so many conversations with new characters and animals, I found I had to keep notes on who was who just to keep these conversations straight.
All in all – fans of the series will either love this latest installment or think it was a bit ‘bleh’ compared to books in the past. Read it for yourself……dive into the world of Anita Blake!
