Coastal Magic is a casual reader weekend, *usually* right on “the world’s most famous beach”. However, for 2021, we’re taking our bookish shenanigans to the interwebs!!
We’d love for you to join us for interesting discussion, fun “meet & greets”, and lots of ways to interact with fellow booklovers and storytellers — all from the comfort of your favorite reading spot!
Even though we won’t be together, we’re still planning to give everyone involved a weekend they’ll remember for years to come.
I am back! This time with another interview. Author Kait Ballenger took some time out of her insanely busy schedule (seriously, ask her what is on her plate) to chat for a few minutes. And if you like books about shifters and you like cowboys, well, do I have some good news for you! Kait has a very popular (for good reason!!) cowboy shifter paranormal romance series out, and the next book, Cowboy Wolf Legend, comes out in July 2021. So you have time to read the first three books if you haven’t yet.
Laura: Hey Kait! Welcome and thank you so much for taking the time to chat. Let’s start by taking a moment to introduce yourself and your books to anyone who is new to you.
Kait: Hi, everyone! My name is Kait Ballenger and I write paranormal romance. I’m currently working on my bestselling Seven Range Shifter series, which is about sexy, captivating heroes who are cowboys by day, wolf shifters by night. In the Seven Range Shifter universe, led by the Grey Wolf Pack seven shifter clans rule the Montana mountainsides they call home, but a evil new will stop at nothing to tear their world apart.
L: If someone was new to you and wanted to start reading your books, where would you suggest they start?
K: I would suggest they start with Cowboy Wolf Trouble, book 1 in the Seven Range Shifter series. I’ve certainly had readers enjoy them out of orders and the books can stand alone, but personally, I think there’s an extra added layer of goodness to seeing the full series arc.
L: What book are you currently reading?
K: Currently, I’m reading a nonfiction book, Write True by Jennifer Probst. My most recently finished fiction reads include: All Scot and Bothered by Kerrigan Byrne, A Tail for Two by Mara Wells, and Season of the Wolf by Maria Vale.
L: *takes notes* So, what are you working on right now?
K: Right now I’m currently on deadline for Seven Range Shifter #5. Book #4, Cowboy Wolf Legend, releases on July 27th, 2021. For readers who are familiar with the series, book #5 is Blaze’s story. He’s been a secondary character throughout the series since Book #1 and is definitely the “class clown” of the Grey Wolf elite warriors, so I can’t wait for him to get his HEA with his heroine.
L: If you could have one superpower, what would it be, and why?
K: Well, I don’t like heights, so flying is out of the question. I’d probably go with telekinesis or invisibility. Telekinesis because it could help me get my housework done and invisibility because you could get into all sorts of mischief lol.
L: If one of your books were to be picked up by Hollywood, and you could choose, would you rather it be made into a movie or TV show?
K: A T.V show! I’d be happy with either, but in my opinion, in recent years TV has been far better than film and I also think TV is better adapted to getting more of what happens in the book on the screen. Two to three hours is just not enough time to convey everything that happens in a book. Plus, there would be more time for me and fans to enjoy it!
L: I have been a huge fan of the book to TV adaptations in the last several years. What did you want to be when you grew up?
K: It changed frequently. Until I was about 10, I wanted to be some combination of a singer/actress/model, but then after that point is was a combination of writer/musician and at one point a doctor or a teacher. All very different professions lol. Ultimately, I settled into the idea of being a writer pretty young though. I wrote my first novella at 11—it was a whole 50 handwritten pages lol. By the time I was 17, I’d already decided I wanted to be an author, then I wrote by first book by 18, which was a YA paranormal/fantasy that has since been heavily-revised/rewritten multiple times. It’s just now out on submission (I’m 30, to give some time perspective on this). I sold my second book, a paranormal romance, at 19, though the rights on that series have recently reverted back to me and I plan to update and re-release it. I found writing earlier than most I would say.
L: And last but not least – If there was an adult version of ice cream trucks that drove around and sold things (doesn’t have to be ice cream) what one item would you hope they sold?
K: Is it a cop out if I say books? Lol! A book truck sounds amazing!
L: Not a cop out at all, I would be the biggest customer for sure! Ohh, we should do this as a business! For those that don’t know, Kait and I live close-ish to each other. Keep an eye out for our new business venture. 😉

Cowboys by day, wolf shifters by night: These bad boys are ready to heat things up in a sexy paranormal wolf shifter romance from author Kait Ballenger.
Packmaster Maverick Grey is reconciled to spending the rest of his life alone. No woman can compare to his former love, least of all Sierra Cavanaugh--a woman who makes level-headed Maverick's blood boil with a fire even his worst enemies could never evoke... But then, with his reputation on the line, and the pack's safety his primary concern, Maverick finds himself in need of a mate, and Sierra comes to him with a proposal. All she wants is to become an elite warrior, and she needs Maverick's help to get to her goal. A marriage of convenience would serve both their purposes.
For these two rivals, the only thing more dangerous than fighting the enemy at their backs is battling the war of seduction building between them...
