…Fiona exploded like the Stay-Puff marshmallow man. Laura screamed as she hurtled toward the earth.

“I’ve got you!” exclaimed a svelte male voice just before she hit the ground. Laura looked into soft brown eyes. And those eyes stared hopelessly back into hers.

Although it was hard to see him clearly, for he sparkled like the very sun itself, the man who set her gently down on the ground resembled a young, punk-like Keefer Sutherland. He smiled, revealing fangs.

“Edward? Are you lost?” Laura asked, still unable to take her eyes from his.

“No, but I’m afraid you are. I’m just glad I got here when I did!” He bowed slightly. “Benny Lestat at your service. No idea what or who an Edward is. Here, drink this.” He whipped out a vial of liquid from his 17th Century attire, shook it vigorously and took a swig, belched mightily, then handed the vial to Laura who looked at the drink in distaste.

“Drink it or we’ll just keep staring into each other’s eyes throughout this whole thing,” he said. “Go on! It’s properly shaken, not stirred.”

Laura took a swig and found she was no longer staring into Benny’s eyes.

“I’d give some to your dog, too,” he added. Laura quickly obliged. All this staring was rather uncomfortable.

Prince whined at Laura’s feet. Benny rolled his eyes. “Louie, Louie. Still whining?”

Laura frowned. “His name is Prince. And why are you sparkling?”

“I was at a Mardi Gras party.” Benny scratched at his groin. “You wouldn’t believe where the glitter ends up. That’s not important right now. Hurry, take this.” He reached into his pocket and pulled out a bow and arrow, which promptly expanded to proper size before handing it to Laura.

Laura squinted to read the inscription on the bow. “To Katniss… what the—”

“She won’t miss it. Much.” Loud chattering roared overhead. “Just shoot one of the monkeys.”

“Gladly.” Laura aimed and took a clean shot to the lead flying monkey. Promptly, all the monkeys exploded into glorious fireworks, beautiful beyond anything Laura had ever seen. “Wow!”

Benny nodded in mutual appreciation. “We’re under the Neville sky. I tell you, than man is a cunning herbologist. Poison arrow darts. Keep sharp!” He straightened his jacket. “Now, we must get you to your grandmother for that magic brew.”

“You mean gas.”

Benny shrugged. “You might want to lay off the late night snacks. It’s a brew, one your grandmother stole from Captain Starbucks. Before she was a witch, she was a pirate.” He walked on, leaving Laura and Prince scrambling to catch up.

Laura stole a quick glance behind her. “What about the dragon?”

Benny laughed. “Forget it. You can’t train those things properly. Yours made a wrong turn at Albuquerque. Now, hurry along.” He checked his pocket watch. “We don’t want to be late. We have a very important date.”
