Armchair BEA Introductions

May 28, 2013 Armchair BEA, Uncategorized 9

Welcome back to Little Read Riding Hood’s second year participating in Armchair BEA! It’s a super fun way for those of us not actually able to go to BEA in New York to still participate (and not feel so left out!).  There have been some big changes since last year – most notably the blog will be up and working ALL WEEK! Last year we were going through some design changes and it was down for several days.

Since it is the first post, we will do introductions first! The organizers provided a list of questions that they wanted us to chose 5 from so here are our 5! Feel free to leave your link in the comments section – or even just your answers!

Introductions

1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?

My name is Laura and I live in Florida with my husband, 3 dogs, and a cat. No kids to speak of – and we plan to keep it that way :-). I have been blogging since March of 2012 and the fact that I have stuck with it for that long should tell you something. I love most every minute of it! I had been thinking about it for a while and a series of events – fortunate events – led me to starting it up. It cost way WAY more than I thought it would (don’t tell my husband!) but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. As I went on, I realized there was too much for just one person, so …

I’m Melanie. I’m a mom and I am an avid reader of all things paranormal or historical. I drink WAY too much coffee. I have only been blogging for a few months. After I attended Olde City New Blood with Laura, she started suggesting that I join her on her blog.  She knows how much I love to read and that I enjoy writing as well. Between Laura and the encouragement of a specific author **cough cough Carol Kunz cough cough.** I’m glad they finally talked me into it because I have met some really awesome people in the months since I became a part of this community. My grammar is not always the best, I’m sure I have tons of  comma splices and that kind of stuff, but I try make up for it with my content.

2. Tell us one non-book-related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you.

Melanie – I played roller derby for 2 years. It was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life. My derby name was “Elizabitch Battery”, and I broke my elbow at the beginning of my 2nd season.

Laura – IRL I am a district manager for a pet boarding facility. Remember where I said I lived in FL? Phoenix is part of my territory. Yeah, IDK either. O_o

3. Name your favorite blog(s) and explain why they are your favorite(s).

Laura – Mine would have to be Goldilox and the Three Weres. Christen is the reason I have so many friends and contacts in the community. She found me somehow, and we were fast friends. I mean hello – check out our blog names! Then the fact we had the same designer, it’s like we were meant to be. 🙂

Melanie – Absolutely, without a doubt, Parajunkee. Do I really need to explain why? It’s freaking amazing! It’s so helpful to bloggers who have just started out or have been blogging for a while and are just looking for a little extra guidance. It gives great advice that everyone can use. They are great about keeping bloggers up to date on all sorts of stuff and answer TONS of questions. There are a lot of other blogs that kick butt, so I can’t narrow it down to just a few without feeling like I’ve left someone out!

4. Which is your favorite post that you have written that you want everyone to read?

Melanie – I really liked my Melanie’s Very First Post, so it would be either that one, or the Author interview I did with Adam Kunz.

Laura – Wow. Um, I recently did a discussion with a YA hero, Micah Condie from Mythology by Helen Boswell, about how he feels being the object of girls affections. That was a lot of fun. Last year I also did an interview with Dex from Karina Halle’s Experiment in Terror Series as part of my birthday bash.

5. What literary location would you most like to visit? Why?

Laura – Gosh, um … I can think of many places I would want to visit but more because of the men than the settings. 🙂 So in that case they could come visit me. But I agree with Mel, for all the reasons she lists. Also because Criminy Stain … *sigh*

Melanie – Sang from the Wicked as They Come by Delilah S. Dawson series. Sang is the only imaginary place that I can recall that I’ve ever wanted to visit in real life. Everything is just slightly off from how things are in real life. All the animals have a vampire version of them. So  a cute and cuddly bunny rabbit could actually be a not so cuddly bludbunny that will gladly pass up a carrot in exchange for eating your face off.

6. Is there anything that you would like to see change in the coming years?

Melanie – As much as I love Laura, I would love to have my own blog.

Laura – And I would love to add more reviewers! If you are interested let me know! (and Mel stays if I have to chain her to a wall)

Now we want to hear about you! Link your Armchair BEA Intro posts in the comments, or just answer the questions! 🙂

You may notice that we answered 6 questions even though only 5 were requested. Well, I couldn’t decide which ones to answer, then I didn’t realize I answered 6, so when I went back to pick one to delete, I still couldn’t choose. So you get 6 answers from us because I can’t follow directions, count or make up my mind. Enjoy! 🙂  ~Melanie

I knew there was some sort of inadvertent rationale that I just didn’t realize at the moment! So potentially, we could have answered all of them if we chose different questions to answer!

Thank you! It took me forever to come up with a name, and since Elizabeth Bathory is my favorite hot mess from history, my hubby thought it was appropriate!

I liked the little comment Laura made at the end haha (:
Parajunkee is a great Blog. I’ve never heard of the goldilox one. I’ll check that one out!
