A pulse-pounding thrill ride, where a teen girl must participate in a breathtaking race to save her brother's life--and her own. Time is slipping away. . . . Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can't determine what's wrong, her parents decide to move to the middle of nowhere for the fresh air. She's lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying--and she's helpless to change anything. Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It's an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother's illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there's no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race. The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can't trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place? Victoria Scott's breathtaking novel grabs readers by the throat and doesn't let go.

I have a funny story to tell about this book before I tell y’all what I thought about it. So I happen to live next door to a funeral home, kind of creepy I know, and I go to get my mail one night and there’s a little package from Scholastic. I was really confused at first wondering why I would have received something from them, so I decided to open it in my driveway. Little tidbit, there just happened to be a funeral going on next door, so I open the package and I literally squeal, out loud, in my driveway at like 8:30 pm. And of course my luck there is a gentleman getting out of his car at the exact moment my excitement decides to show itself, and I get the single weirdest look ever…Some people will never understand the excitement of getting a book before it’s published.

A few things about this book, I was really excited when I heard about this book, then once I received it, wonderful Laura didn’t rate it so hot, and I got worried that I wouldn’t enjoy it. But thankfully that wasn’t the case, I really enjoyed Fire and Flood and I thought it was an interesting storyline. There was lots of action, adventure, some romance, and very strong family bonds. So that being said, I didn’t really like Tella. I grew up in a family that I would die to protect, no matter what. But Tella, she kept debating with herself about should she stay or should she go, am I strong enough to save my brother or will I die to save him? For me there would have been no question, and had my parents tried to keep it from me I would have been PISSED! If my brother were sick and I had the chance to save him, I would have moved heaven and earth, and honestly if it were kill or be killed I would have been killing people left and right no hesitation. Now, after the game started I didn’t dislike her as much, but with the way she started out it was difficult for me to relate to her. I really loved Scott’s side characters though, the pandoras, Guy (the love interest) and her fellow contenders, everyone has a story, someone they love, that they are trying to save from the Brimstone Bleed.

So all that being said, will you travel through the Brimstone Bleed?
